Muchin, Viktor ; Dubský, Zbyněk (advisor) ; Eichler, Jan (referee)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is evaluation of changes in Russian foreign policy during the first presidential term of Putin. The thesis is divided into two parts- theoretical and practical. In theoretical part I am concerned with operating one of the theories of international relations called social constructivism. This theory brought manifold changes into foreign policy of Russia through seeking Russian own national identity. My observational question asks to which magnitute national aspect of Russia was approved in its foreign policy. Social constructivism is consequently introduced in the analysis of three Russian doctrinal documents- the National Security Concept, Military doctrine and the Foreign policy Concept of 2000. In practical part I present the application of this theory on demanded complex of co-operation with the USA as the representative of Western civilization, while there is also the effort to maintain the sphere of influence on post-soviet region such as Baltic states, Ukraine and Belarus.

Štulcová, Iveta ; Karásek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Karlas, Jan (referee)
Diploma thesis "NATO in the fight against terrorism and the formation of collective identity" deals with the impact of the threat of international terrorism on collective identity of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The September 11th terrorist attacks on the US soil constitute a milestone in the history of NATO. The article 5 of Washington treaty was invocated for the first time. The main argument of the thesis states that, despite disagreements among allies about the role of the Alliance in the fight against terrorism after the September 11th , NATO was capable of reinforcing its collective identity and reformulating its purpose. The main goal of the thesis is to define a relationship between the perception of the threat of terrorism within NATO and collective identity of NATO, on the basis of arguments of social constructivism and with constructivist methodology. Discourse analysis of key NATO documents confirms the impact of September 11th on the transformation of strategic consideration of the Alliance, which has led to initiation of several efforts to fight terrorism. Outcomes of discourse analysis of United States, United Kingdom, France, Czech Republic and Poland reveal that terrorism has reinforced collective identity among NATO member states and has become a new threat for Alliance...
Identifying flip floppers: changing attitudes towards suicide bombing in the Middle East
Malečková, Jitka ; Kovač, Dejan
Existing literature on attitudes towards terrorism is mainly based on a cross sectional analysis of data, providing insights in the differences among countries. This paper examines changes in public opinion on terrorism over time, utilizing the PEW Survey data on at titudes towards suicide bombing in the Middle East (specifically Egypt and Pakistan) from 2004 to 2011. Give n the lack of panel data, it uses the Markov chain methodology to compare changes in the distribution of people who approve of terrorism in order to identify specific demograp hic groups within a country that have a higher probability of switching between approval and disapproval of suicide bombing. Predicting future evolutio n of terror ism approval helps to identify outliers in the data. Year to year country level changes in approval of terrorism are divided into different subgroups to investigate whether the change is on aggregate level for the whole country or whether specific demograp hic groups are triggering the changes. The results of this research can inform policies aimed at reducing the rates of terrorism approval among specific demographic groups.
Trade with blood diamonds as a means of funding of international terrorism
Štekrová, Monika ; Rolenc, Jan Martin (advisor) ; Pavlicová, Vendula (referee)
Terrorism is a term that undoubtedly arouses fear and worry in humans, but they do not really have a clue about how it works. In the first chapters, the work tries to describe resources from which terrorism receives funds for its existence. Less well-known means of funding terrorism are blood diamonds, but it does not mean that it is a term which is not important or it is not necessary to deal with, just the opposite. Another part is devoted to the term "blood diamonds", but also its influence on international terrorism. We also find there a mention of trying to introduce measures that would help to control the world diamond trade. However, not all countries are willing to cooperate and support these measures so that system can not work comprehensively and effectively enough. In terms of international terrorism, raw material extraction is becoming increasingly important and their subsequent sale to support the opposing governments or terrorist organizations in recent years. That is why I chose the topic "Trade with blood diamonds as a means of funding of international terrorism" to give the general public an idea of that issue.

International terrorism and its causes
